In our interview, he will explain how the ISCC+ certification system works and the role the sustainable Formliner plays for partners and clients.
Dr. Nick Hecktor from our in-house Technical Center is an expert in sustainability certification and has been involved for years with topics related to ISCC+ and the implementation of our sustainable Formliner, the FormlinerECO. Look forward to exciting insights and practical information.
ISCC+ is a certification system of ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) that aims to ensure the sustainability of biomass and bioenergy in various value chains. Particularly valuable for us is the use of industrial and biological raw materials in the value chain with the aim of a circular economy. ISCC+ is especially relevant for the certification of products that go beyond the scope of biofuels, such as the food, feed, and chemical industries.
ISCC+ offers companies the opportunity to certify their products and processes in terms of sustainability, traceability, and environmental friendliness. The certification considers various criteria, including the conservation of environmental resources, protection of biodiversity, compliance with social standards, and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
In a comprehensive audit, our processes and the correct mass balances were analyzed. To this end, we set up calculations, automated processes, and trained our employees. We were aware that we have a great responsibility as part of the mass balance system, which is why it was important to us to take sustainable care of this.
As part of a resource-intensive construction industry, we take responsibility, optimize our raw materials, reduce CO2 emissions, and continue to research recycling possibilities for plastics and packaging. With the implementation of the world’s first sustainable Formliner, we are setting a new standard for elastic formwork. These points are an important contribution to the commitment to sustainability goals and thus to the successful extension of the ISCC+ certification. In a comprehensive audit, our processes and correct mass balancing were analyzed, ensuring that we can continue to be part of the certified supply chain. This certification underscores our commitment to environmental protection and social responsibility.
The user receives a high-quality Formliner that is the first one on the market made from sustainable raw materials. Furthermore, the customer actively contributes to reducing fossil raw materials and supports sustainable construction. We guarantee full transparency and traceability of the materials used, ensuring that the Formliner meets the highest sustainability standards. The reusability of up to 100 times also significantly contributes to sustainability. With a wide range of designs, the possibility to implement your design ideas, and adaptability in size, there are no limits to design possibilities.
There are no quality differences between the sustainable Formliner and the regular Formliners. Instead of fossil crude oil, waste materials are processed, resulting in products that are qualitatively and chemically identical to our previous raw materials. Every FormlinerECO has the same high quality as the regular RECKLI Formliners, and every texture can be ordered as a sustainable Formliner. When purchasing the sustainable Formliners from RECKLI, customers receive a certificate tailored to the respective quantity. This certificate confirms that the purchased Formliners are made from sustainable ISCC+ certified raw materials and meet high environmental and sustainability standards.
The raw materials used to produce our ISCC+ certified Formliners are circular or bio-circular. Circular and bio-circular raw materials refer to sustainable production processes in which materials are either recycled or obtained from residuals in the processing of renewable raw materials to counteract the environmental impacts of production and to use resources more efficiently.
Compliance with ISCC+ standards is monitored through an annual external audit. Additionally, we have implemented internal control mechanisms and training to ensure that all processes meet the strict requirements of the ISCC+ system. An important component is also the traceability along the entire supply chain, which we ensure through careful documentation. These measures guarantee that ISCC+ standards are continuously met.
The raw materials of our ISCC+ Formliner are obtained from biological or industrial waste. These are selected waste materials that are further processed into qualitatively and chemically identical raw materials. These raw materials are identical to our standard materials. Our Formliners are not yet the focus of large-scale industrial recycling due to the small amount of waste. For this reason, we recommend disposal through local waste disposal companies. Nevertheless, we are conducting intensive research to introduce our Formliners into high-quality recycling processes and thus expand the circular economy.
The exact amount of CO2 saved cannot currently be accurately quantified, as the approach to determining the CO2 content of products varies, and there are different types of life cycle assessments. What we can guarantee is that with the ISCC+ Formliner, hardly any fossil carbon is used, as we replace fossil components with sustainable raw materials.
At this point in time, the Formliner is not recyclable. Theoretically, it could be recycled materially and chemically, but our high standards cannot be achieved with simple recycling processes. However, we are researching the implementation of high-quality recycling processes to align quality and the circular economy in the future.
There is no difference in quality between the sustainable Formliner and the regular Formliners. Instead of crude oil, waste materials are processed, resulting in products that are qualitatively and chemically identical to our previous raw materials. Every FormlinerECO has the same high quality as the regular Formliners.
