Architects’ Darling Award for RECKLI
The jury named the façade on the Swedish residential towers “Norra Tornen”
the best reference. RECKLI won the category for the second time in a row.
RECKLI was honored to receive the accolade of one of the best companies in the construction industry: RECKLI was awarded an Architects’ Darling Award in gold for best reference building. The award went to the Swedish project “Norra Tornen” – two residential high-rises with architecture hinged on a modern interpretation of brutalism. The Architects’ Darling is awarded by construction stalwart Heinze after a survey of architects. The ninth award ceremony with hand-over of the Phoenix, the coveted AD trophy, took place at the Celler Werktag event.
“We have many exceptional and well-renowned projects that enjoy a lot of attention from the public. Of course, this makes it all the more difficult to select an exceptional project to submit to the jury. We consciously chose a building that sparked controversial discussion due to its architectural style, and naturally attracted a lot of critics. Architecture firm OMA took a leap of faith with us and opted for a modern interpretation of brutalism. This courage is now being rewarded. Quite rightly in our opinion. This makes us all the more glad that this is how we were able to win over the architects. We’re also happy that an international project was chosen for the honor,” said Corinna Uphaus, Strategy Marketing Manager.
Celebrated Dutch architecture firm OMA inherited plans for two towers of differing heights upon taking over the project. Architect Reinier de Graaf created two buildings with stacked living cubes and a plethora of exposed concrete. To make sure that the bulk of concrete didn’t come across as menacing or brutal, the living cubes were offset and the façade designed with a ribbed texture. RECKLI delivered formliners to design the exposed concrete elements. A standard ribbed formliner was customized to suit the architects’ vision. Distances, angles, gaps and depths were defined precisely. The project in the Stockholm district of Hagastaden is celebrated as a “gateway to the city”.
RECKLI was awarded with an Architects’ Darling for the fifth time. In 2018, the jury crowned the Bündner Museum in Chur , designed by Spanish firm Barozzi Veiga, the best reference. All issues of architecture magazine FORMLINER have been awarded with a Phoenix since its first publication in 2015.
The Architects’ Darling is an award offered by construction networker Heinze. In the country’s largest industry survey, more than 2,000 architects and planners vote in 25 product categories. In a survey, they were able to decide the best solutions in the fields of fire safety, sanitary fixtures and partition wall systems. An expert jury voted the winners of 12 further categories concentrating on media and communication strategies from advertising to BIM data services.
